Earthquake!!!

Did you notice the earthquake that happens couple minutes ago? NHK news said that registered 4 in Chiba!! I was sleeping at that time but strong shake woke me up! So I can't sleep any more this night....
By the way, it is good time to post a new comment on my blog. So I will talk about this weekend. This weekend I had a really good time. Because we (we means my last classmate IC-4) visit Mark's house. Do you remember Mark fraser who was teaching in our university last year. Now he is teaching in Tokai univ. It was second time to visit them. He and his wife looks fine and they also enjoyed times with us! So this weekend was very special for me! How was your weekend?

As you know, Japan is a buddhism country. So many people believe that god will bring us happiness and get rid of evil from us. This is a picture of the genius. Some shrines and castles have this on the roofs. I think chinese houses has the genius in front of their houses. However,I have no idea that eastern countries have this. By the way, do you have the genius in your house?

Sometime the difference of culture appeared in the color. For example, many Japanese think that the color of sun is red. There is big evidence on our national flag. This flag stand for "The Rising Sun". Can you guess what the color of the sun? Yes! It painted by red! So the color of sun is red for Japanese. It is really interesting for me. Because most countries's people answer that the color of sun is "orange" or "yellow".
Anyway, what is the color of the sun in your country?

Today I went to millenium hall, which located in Kanda Unv, to watch video from Aceh. It was good experience for me and I was rocked by wathing this video. You know, Aceh got terrible damage by earthquake in Sumatra on 26,Dec,2004. I realize that they still need more volunteers and money to remake their hometown. Also they has not recovered from trauma of Tunami. So if I have a chance to visit there, I want to work as a volunteer and help them.

This weekend

I'll talk about what I did on this weekend. It's popular for Japanese to work as a part-time worker on their weekends. Of course me too. Perhaps, some of you know that I'm working as a bartender in Tokyo Disney sea. I'm really enjoy working in Disney. However, this weekend is so crowded that I am little tired. So I can't write anymore. I'm sleepy..... have a good night everyone. See you soon.

How do you feel if you asked "Do you have my car?" or "Do you have my home?" by your friend? I think you'll feel uncomfortable or get angry by this kind questions. However, you don't have to get angry or feel uncomfortable in Japan. Because Japanese are tending to use a lot of "My~" in conversations. So they don't suspect you. Don't worry!!
By the way, there are so many "My~"in Japanese English.(a new type of language ha-ha!) For instance My station, My bank, My company and so on. I really envy them because they have a lot of money to have own station or bank!!

「何もありませんが…。」 There is nothing？？？？

Many Japanese use this word 「何もありませんが」(nanimo arimasenga) in daily lives. Can you guess what situation is this? In English this word would be "There is nothing." or "Nothing." It a typical modesty Japanese word.　And I think this situation might be happen in only Japan. It is really incomprehensible word to foreigners. But it is a kind of Japanese clture.

Some of you couldn't understand what this situation is. So I'll give a very simply example to you. This conversations hold between two women.

One day, Yuko invite her friend to dinner in her house.
Friend:Thank you for inviting me for a dinner. 「今日はありがとう。」
Yuko:Welcome, I'm glad to have a dinner with you.　「どういたしまして。」
(There are so many food on the table!! sushi, yakitori, sashimi...)
Friend:Wow!! Its so nice don't you. 「すごいご馳走ね！」
Yuko:There is nothing. 「何もありませんが」

　　　　　　　　　　　　　・
　　　　　　　　　　　　　・

If you read English part, you feel strangeness in Yuko's response. But this is not so strange in Japan. Both of them have no problem with their visual and know there are somethig on the table. However, both of theme feel no strangeness in this conversations and this situation might be happens in Japan everyday!! As I said this is a kind of our culture.
So if you invited to dinner or lunch by your Japanese friends, perhaps they will say it!

Hi! everyone. How was going? Recently, I found a blog that publish by name scott. He is one of the teacher in Kansai international studies university, and teaching blogs in his class. I had a good time with my classmate on monday class. We discussed about our projects. Someone will introduce sigthseen spots, about Nintendo, about foods or car lives. All project sound really interesting and I'm looking forward to see their blogs. And I also recomend you to see their blogs. So I wish you will visit them!!
By the way, of cource I gave a presentation about my project. Then, they gave me some advice about my blog. For instance, it were pasting movies of some funny gestures in Japan, make links with another blogger who have simmilar topic to me or introduce martial arts. There were more possible advise for me. I will make my blog better from these advise and make you interested in funny Japanese cltures.
Lastly, I want to say thanx to my classmates and teacher for give me some good advice!!!
